My name is Peter, and I am Associate Professor of English and Director of University Writing at Whitworth University.

My book Touching This Leviathan asks how someone might come to know the unknowable—in this case, whales. (The Seattle Times selected it as a favorite book of 2021.) I recently co-edited a collection on the teaching of writing. And, a few years ago, I built a whale skeleton.
